Labrador West is a scenic and rewarding destination, accessible via Expedition 51 - a cross-province route that includes two major highways.
From the West or South
Travel through Québec on Highway 389, which stretches 585 km from Baie-Comeau to Fermont, Labrador City’s neighbouring town. This route includes both paved and gravel sections.
Baie-Comeau is a ferry port with daily crossings to Matane.
After Fermont, the road becomes Highway 500 - fully paved - and continues for 28 km into Labrador City.
From the East
The eastern approach follows the Trans-Labrador Highway, consisting of Highways 510 and 500. Start your journey near L’Anse au Clair, and travel 612 km along Highway 510 to Happy Valley-Goose Bay, where it transitions to Highway 500 for the 529 km drive west to Labrador City.
If you’re coming from Newfoundland, you can cross into Labrador by ferry at Blanc Sablon, located on the Québec–Labrador border.

The Tshiuetin Railway services multiple locations throughout Labrador and Quebec, running from Schefferville in the north to Sept-Isles in the south. The nearest station to Labrador West is Emeril Junction, 62km northeast of Labrador City along Route 500.
The Railway was created by the First Nations of Uashat Mak Mani-Utenam, Matimekush-Lac John and Kawawachikamach as a way to help economic and social growth for their communities.
