Donna Allard, a stay-at-home mother of three, was born and raised right here in Wabush, NL.
As a child growing up here, she spent a great deal of time in the great outdoors camping, fishing and just loving nature. Still to this day she prefers to be outside surrounded by nature and all of its beauty.
We asked her about her start in photography, her response: "I always remember taking photographs, but never took it up seriously until about 5 years ago when I began doing Studio Sessions. I am a self taught photographer that learned the ropes through the guidance of a friend, plus a little trial and error. That along with my passion for for capturing life as it happens!"
The past two years has brought about a new vision in her photography. With the long, cold Labrador winters, she began feeding various types of birds. She learned how to attract different species right into her own backyard, onto her patio, right up to the multi-feeder made by her husband. She became fascinated with the many colorful species (see Birdwatching Page) that she did not even know existed here in Labrador West. Spurred by this new interest, she joined the Canadian Feeder Watch Program and began to monitor and learn more about these beautiful animals.
"My camera sits on my kitchen table all year long ready to go at a moments notice! I always have my door open to hear the sounds that resonate every single day in the songs of my Backyard Beauties!"
Donna has had photos published in Our Canada Magazine as well as the Downhome Magazine. You can also find some of her photos online through the Feeder Watch Program. Many of her photos have been printed as cards and postcards, available at the Labrador Rose Gift Shop in the Gateway Labrador Building, right here in Labrador City,NL.
